Classic contest · first run 2011
Orchard Planting.
Plant N trees on whole-number points to make as many lines of exactly four trees as you can. Do it for every N from 11 to 60.
The rules
Each tree sits on a point with whole-number coordinates, like (3,-7). Coordinates can be as large as you like.
No two trees may share a point.
Your score for N is the number of straight lines that pass through exactly four trees.
If any line passes through five or more trees, the whole orchard is invalid.
For each N, only your best orchard counts. Your contest score is the sum, over N = 11 to 60, of your best ÷ the best anyone has found. A perfect score is 50.
The 2011 records count as "the best anyone has found" until someone beats them.
